This image features the New York Yankees iconic centerfielder Mickey Mantle, who blazed a unique path from the start of his big league career. Combining boyish good looks, sprinter’s speed and Herculean power, the Commerce Comet, despite a series of injuries, excelled throughout his 18-year career. Arguably the greatest switch-hitter the game has ever seen, he finished with 536 home runs and a .298 career batting average, four home run titles, three Most Valuable Player awards, and the Triple Crown in 1956. He also helped the Bronx Bombers to 12 pennants and seven World Series titles in his first 14 seasons.
