A baseball record that seemed unassailable is finally broken as Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds watches his 4,192nd hit begin its flight towards the outfield. Rose surpassed Ty Cobb’s 57-year-old record for career hits, 4,191, during this game at Riverfront Stadium against the San Diego Padres. The legendary Cobb got his total hits in 11,429. Rose broke the record in 13,769 times-at-bat.
